What can you say about PRT that hasn't already been
said? These brothas have kept it consistently comin'
since the 1980's when they dropped numerous classics,
most notably Rock Dis Funky Joint with an assist
from fellow Trentonian Tony D. Well 2003 finds the crew
no longer dwelling on major labels but more comfortably
and no less funky on the Jersey based Exit 7A imprint.
Can You Feel It, as Incredibly
did before it leaves no doubt that Wise Intelligence
hasn't lost a step. His vocals remain political, engaging,
intricate and passionate as ever. Blessed with impeccable
production, heavyweight mixdown and free flowing funk
track that goes toe to toe with Wise's spitfire delivery,
it's not surprising that Can You Feel It? is
a success. Their ever present Trenton pride is alluded
to, as are past ugliness with major label politricks
and disgust with prefabricated industry pitfalls. What
we're left with is what we started out with, a talented
group that began making Hip Hop music for love and find
themselves doing exactly the same all these years later.
Poor Righteous Teachers just make music. Period. It
woks because it's sincere, indelibly etched into their
character and void of any pretentiousness. Poor Righteous
Teachers are similar to Chuck D and KRS-ONE in that
they do Hip Hop because they are Hip Hop. Y'all get
the point.
Can you Feel it? I know I can. I'm confident
that y'all will too. Nuff Said.
