A new Maylay 12" is out, go buy it!! That's my
typical response anytime Maylay Sparks (formerly Rasheed)
drops new material, and this single is without exception.
There is something about the way Maylay flips a track
and takes the listener back to the golden age of hip
hop intertwined with one of the sickest flows in the
game, period.
Side A, "Crazy", finds Maylay once again
teamed up with Danish DJ/Producer, DJ Noize, to pump
out more "fantastic" Philly flavor. Those
of you who
picked up what may have been the most slept on underground
classic of last year, "Fantastic" by DJ Noize
featuring Maylay Sparks, will not be let down, as "Crazy"
picks right up where "Fantastic" left off!
The beat is accompanied by Maylay's impeccable flow
and is all brought together with a chopped up chorus
by Noize on the decks. Again, it is clear why Maylay
has gone back to
Noize as the additional recipe for musical success.
Its not done yet though, side B, "It's Ours"
(along with "Crazy") could make it into my
top 5 list of the year. Maylay is teamed up with his
old rhyming partners, Ill Advised (Baby Blak and Mr.
Lish), over a typical Alchemist gem that proves to be
an instant banger from the opening sequence. Blak and
Lish teamed up with Maylay brings back reminiscence
of the '97-'99 dream team MC crew who brought several
classics home to the 215. Simple and plain, this joint
is strait
fire. These 3 Illadelph underground pioneers MC's shine
on the Alchemist beat and prove why their longevity
and credibility in the game has withstood the test of
time as lyricist, be it solo or crew oriented.
This is another Philly classic not to be overlooked,
a must have for any Maylay or Ill Advised fan, but furthermore,
any hip hop fan looking for originality in a time of
creative drought in the industry. Maylay, Ill Advised,
DJ Noize and Alchemist, thank you, from my ears.
