Intelligent wordsmith. Two simple but poignant words to describe Southwest rhymerator Lex . By now it shouldn't come as any surprise. He's been knockin' away at his craft for quite some time now, each effort artistically building upon the foundations of the others. The Midnight Files is no different.
Set in a 1940's film noir atmosphere, Lex uses classic black and white audio imagery to set the tone, the album is a clever combo of old time movie clips intertwined with new millennium urban smoovness. Case in point is One Time, the excitingly soulful vehicle that serves as the album's standout cut. This is the type would be right at home on a Common album, garnering much attention from mixtape DJ cross regionally. This think is ready and worthy of heavy radio rotation. Remember that. In the same vain is the loopadelic funk of This Is For You and the comfortable Quiet Storm stylee called Legendary. But wait... there's more! Lex flips Michael Jackson on the I Can't Help it If I Wanted To vibe smartly with the understated but effective Baby. Joining the tight track parade is S.O.S. Band's classic Just Be Good To Me in the guise of Look At Me. This is where Lex takes off the gloves and demonstrates why he knows all about putting the vocab in vocabulary. Tightly delivered confident rhymes over a familiar backing can mean nothing other scrumcious sounds for us to consume.
I guess by now y'all get the point. I'm lovin' this album and I'm confident you will too. This is one that comes with the PhillyHipHop.com Money Back Guarantee.
