Now this is what a Hip Hop album is supposed to be.
Buy this album. Have a nice day
Actually that's all you need to know but I'll delve
into this effort in greater detail to take up some more
space. Philly homeboys Mr. Eon & Mighty Mi come
correct with an album that's about as Hip as the Hop
can get. How refreshing it was to get through an entire
album with no filler tracks. If you're looking for cookie
cutter "product" this isn't for you. The High
& Mighty's reverence for what they do is obvious.
Guest lyricists are sprinkled throughout but not in
the ho-hum style that we've come to expect in recent
times. With emcees like Mos Def, Mad Skillz, Defari,
Eminem, Kool Keith and our own Bobbito Garcia, the lineup
is stronger than a vintage Barkley dunk.
B-Boy Document '99 is a clever reworking of the late
eighties classic B-Boy Documents. Don't forget that
original was by our Camden, NJ homies the Krown Rulers.
They're the same brothers that blessed us with Kick
The Ball. Props to TH&M for paying respects to these
Philadelphia area pioneers. Rather than breaking down
individual cuts, its safe for me to tell you that this
is a party of 19 bangin' cuts (skits included).
The High & Mighty show madd love to Philly from
the back cover of the album to the shout outs and influences
that they list. The back of the album brings back madd
memories for me cause my room looked just like the one
in the picture. A shrine to our Phillies, Sixers &
Eagles and what is now old school Hip Hop. I still have
he 80' Phillies and 83' Sixers pennants on the wall!
Thank you to The High & Mighty from PhillyHipHop.com
for recognizing our Street Beat program as a major influence
in your careers. TH&M listed Jeff Mills & Lady
B as influences (for y'all new jacks, Jeff Mills was
our DJ on Street Beat during our 80's run on Power 99).
While your home base is in New York now, it will always
be Philly that gives you the Home Field Advantage.
