Two Words is one of the many well produced hits
off of Kayne West's overnight success album, College
Dropout. Featuring Mos Def and Freeway, Kayne brought
two different spectrum emcees together, which was not
only a smart move to increase his fan base, but a damn
good marketing strategy.
Some may expect Kayne to come up short on Two Words
against his more experienced counterparts, but that
is not the case. With the haunting, beautiful echoed
harmony of the Harlem Boys Choir to the properly placed
drum sounds, Two Words provide a memorable listening
experience. First performed by Mos Def and West on The
Dave Chapelle Show, Two Words was a hit with
Hip Hop fans from day one. Freeway was an album addition.
He didn't make it any better or worse, just gave the
Freeway fans a reason to listen to the song.
Two Words is a bit of venting about everything
from politics of the business to personal and youth
struggles. They are translated to the listener through
2 word phrases that stay in a consistent syllabic pattern
throughout. Two Words is a song that can calm you down
or hype you up. Everything on the song comes together
lovely. This is an example of how hip hop should be;
simple interpretation that you can groove and relate
to.
"Two Words, United States, no love, no brakes,
low brow, high stakes, crack smoke, black folks, Big
Macs, fat folks, ecstasy capsules, Presidential Scandals,
everybody MOVE." Mos Def, Two Words
