What would the number one album in the country be without
Philly Hip Hop being represented? The number one album
from the number one movie in the land is nothing short
of an all star lineup of who's who in Hip Hop today.
Illadelph's Freeway teams with label mate Jay-Z to deliver
8 Miles And Runnin.
Freeway and Jay-z give a typical Roc performance on
what proves to be a solid if not spectacular song. While
the beat is nothing particularly interesting, the distinctive
vocals of Freeway and Jay-Z step up to save the song
by diverting your attention away from the instrumentation
and onto their rhymes. One of the strong sectors of
8 Miles And Runnin is the experimental vibe of the rhymes.
The back and forth wordplay between Freeway and Hova
works because it dares to break the verse hook verse
hook verse hook monotony of the industry. Now to even
attempt a move like this you haveta' be playin' it large
and these two brothers definitely are. Come to think
of it, after a few minutes, that non descript beats
becomes somewhat hypnotic...
All this leaves just one question left to be answered...
when is the album Philadelphia Freeway finally going
to be released? We're all waiting.
