No matter where a Philadelphian goes, they're sure to
bring the Philly Phunk with em'. Such is the case with
the South Carolina based Dyverse and Carolina Woods.
A Philly brother is at the helm on this ready for prime
time release.
The album contains what I consider my personal favorite
Philly Hip Hop song of the year in Tweedle Dee. This
song deserves daytime radio spins, mixtape luv, video
play and cross regional appeal. While not the typical
Illadelph fare, this track drips smooth, jazzadelified
head noddin fuuuuuuuuunky funk sure to please any audience.
I'm sure after listening to it you'll add yourself to
the list of Tweedle Dee fans. Imagine a dash of Philly
Phunk, a pinch of Dirty South grit, a psedo- Nelly delivery
and a healthy heaping of West Coast G Funk with a catchy,
grooved hook and you have the recipe for this sure fire
hit.
Although Tweedle Dee is Dyverse's breakout track, the
album isn't a one hit wonderland. Another of the super
solid songs is Ma Dukes, presented in the same style
as Tweedle Dee. This sounds like the follow up single
to me. Still funky but not quite as amazing is the sing
song delivery of If I. The brother even flips straight
R&B singing in the tradition of MC Breeze (Hip Hop's
first singing emcee) on the satisfying No One and What
Kind Of Man.
While there's no doubt that all of Carolina Woods is
on point, its worth the price of admission on the strength
of Tweedle Dee alone. Guess what CD I'm gonna be pumpin'
in the ride all summer long ???
