The first thing you'll notice about In The Mix Vol.
2 is the superb sound quality. Black Lung Brothers are
a veteran crew, and with Dor on the controls it's no
surprise that business is handled correctly.
That business savvy comes into play with this mix.
I gotta give Dor props for coming up with such a creative
way to present his music to a new audience. Instead
of putting together a project solely comprised off the
BLB's music, he slyly slides it right into the mix among
industry heavyweights. In the process he keeps heads
who might not otherwise check out the Black Lung Brothers
to stay tuned throughout.
Of course his initiative wouldn't mean ish if it sounded
like ish. While there's no turntable trickery, the mix
stays fresh and moves along without any hiccups. The
songs in the mix reflect artists who share the same
audience that Dor and his crew are targeting with their
own albums. Free is the stronger of the two BLB efforts.
It straddles the fine line between commercial success
and street credibility. The vocals in the hooks compliment
the rhymes to put the song over the top. Philly love
shows up with The Roots Quills and their front man Black
Thought sharing the mic with Pharaoh Monch and Talib
Kwali on Guerilla Monsoon Rap.
With its crystal clear sound, sonic boom and smoothly
blended lineup of bangin beats and rowdy rhymes, In
The Mix Vol. 2 gets two enthusiastic thumbs up.
