As is the case with everything that the Boomspot releases,
the precision and clarity on Dor's ode to the old school
is a true slice of yes, yes y'all. This thing just sounds
good. This thing is blended well. This thing reps the
215 pioneers well.
Interspersed with other classic golden age cuts are
nuclear bombs from the likes of hometown heroes Krown
Rulers, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Steady B
and Larry Love. Props and mention also have to go out
to the insertion of Michael Jackson's I Can't Help It.
The way Dor incorporates it is right on point. For good
measure he flips the somewhat obscure You'll Never Know
from High Gloss without missing a beat. Now we know
there's a million DJ offering old school mixes but Dor
puts just enough of a personal twist and new experimentation
to make this one work. It's no demonstration in turntablism
but it's not intended to be. With summer fast approaching
I suggest Going Way Back as an addition to the CD changer
in a matter of weeks when the windows of your ride will
be down and you'll be fluidly flowing through the blacktops
of the 215 and sharing the funk with those you pass
by in the streets.
When an artist is truly passionate for his craft, it
bleeds through the sound. This is definitely the case
with Dor's latest offering. I've already got it in my
deck and see it staying in the ride for many of my drop
top summer cruises...
