Jon Doe is a young brother who was lived a long life.
The Philly resident came to the 215 by way of Lancaster,
PA and Harrisburg, PA's National Rap League.
His self-produced three song EP Don't Stop is a solid
effort with one standout cut deserving of mixtape action
and late night radio spins. That song is aptly titled
Shine. Here Doe is at his confident best, displaying
a strong and confident vocal delivery intertwined with
a smooth funkdafied track blessed with the on point
R&B hook sounds of Monique Harcum. The title track
Don't Stop lacks the punch or excitement of Shine but
nonetheless acts as an additional venue to prove that
Doe didn't just get lucky with Shine. He's moving in
the right direction. The EP is rounded out with the
angst ridden Sh!t Happens. This track displays the most
verbal dexterity with lines like "ignorance is
dangerous, my mission is extraneous, Black man trying
to avoid the spontaneous, bullet from the gat of a cat
nameless and miscellaneous, n@#$% is nuts like Macadameas..."
Jon Doe may be obscure and faceless now but all that
seems to be about to change. His talent will see to
that.
