If Takedown Records is at the forefront of the Philly
Gully sound, then the Dalinkwentz Takedown Anthem
is about as Gully as it gets. Following the trend of
music coming from the 215 that doesn't sound like the
Illadelph sounds we've grown accustomed to, it only
adds to our rep as the most diverse Hip Hop scene on
the third rock from the sun. The white tee clad corner
boyz are gonna be bumpin' this cut from the Erie Nation
(EA all day) to Jamaica Estates to Chester, Allentown,
Wilmington and beyond. That beyond is the rapidly growing
audience for Philly Gully in locales in the Carolinas,
Louisiana, St. Louis, Memphis and areas in between.
While the culturalist faction of the Greater Philadelphia
Region may frown upon this relatively new phenomenon
as lacking the cerebral depth and creativity of its
predecessors, there's no denying that we all benefit
residually from the new markets that Philly Hip Hop
is reaching into and conquering in the process. To be
a Hip Hop artist from Philly is a special thing in the
eyes of the rest of AmeriKKKa. We need to take a step
back to see the new doors that crews like the Dalinkwentz,
State Property, Major Figgas, RAM Squad and NAAM Brigade
have opened up for our City of Brotherly Thugs
Damn Snow, enough waxing poetic from an oldhead, how
bout' actually talkin' about the song you're reviewing?
Ok, here it is: the production is tight as hell, the
beat knocks hard enough to vibrate the inner dimensions
of your chest and the chorus is simple and smooth enough
to become instantly comfortable. Add in the fact that
you have a group of confident to the point of cocky
rappers spitting hard and you end up with exactly what
Takedown Anthem is- a good song.
Another day, another gift to a fiending USA for our
uncut Philly Gully. Look for the Dalinkwentz to be in
business for a long time... a profitable business.
