Trentonian emcee C. Weeks goes right for the jugular
with the straightforwardness and matter of fact simplicity
of Hustla.
Succeeding largely on the strength of a phat ass chaotic
track designed to raise the blood pressure and the well
thought out and delivered intricacies of C. Weeks rhymes,
Hustla gets a solid green light like almost all
the music coming out of talent town, err, I mean Trenton
these days. It'll take a few plays to pick up on all
the wordplay contained within. As the title suggests
this cut is all Gully and all about life in the streets
and while we've all heard that tale a billion times
before Weeks manages to do it in a way that keeps your
attention. Better yet, he does it with a twist of originality,
no airs, exuberance and his own brand of cerebral calisthenics
that show him to be clearly ahead of the local pack
of crowded emcees.
While not a superstar and undoubtedly a rapper with
room to grow artistically, C. Weeks does more than enough
to keep you interested... and isn't that what the game's
all about? I predict we'll be hearing much more from
this brother in the coming months. Trenton Makes, The
World Takes.
