Hard working musicologist DJ CCx returns in time for
Christmas with the second installment of his Quality
series. They say fine wine gets better with age and
so does Quality: Volume Two. The mix is a vast improvement
over version one. Gotta give credit where credit is
due.
CCx is part of a growing trend of area DJs smartly
crafting in nationally-known and unheralded Philly acts
in the mix while keeping a healthy dose of other metro
areas represented. Numero dos starts off with a phat
exclusive from the madd underrated Supastition. He surfaces
again with the equally funkalicious Last Call. Although
based in North Carolina, Supa has deep roots to the
215. As alluded to, he does his local big uppin' thing
with varied sounds from stalwart Illadelph fav Digs
Darklighter to the hard charging New Jeru emcee Viro
The Virus to Wilkes-Barre's Black Lung Brothers Jaeon,
Tommy Mula (with Philly songstress Nicole Zollo) to
the straight up "this is why I love Hip Hop"
feeling achieved from listening to the Grand Agent/
Pete Rock collab This Is What They Meant By Soul.
On the national level there's tasty treats from Black
Ops to While I'm Dancin' to Run That Sh!t. You'll encounter
the Juggaknots, 7l & Esoteric, El Da Sensei and
the abrasive Ill Bill. There's no shortage of solid
sounds here. Credit CCx for savvy selections and a free
flowing mix.
The abridged version is that Quality: Volume Two is
chock full' a rap snacks to take care of any case of
the musical munchies. Nuff said.
