Right off the bat I have to admit that I've never been
much of a Ja Rule fan. No diss to the man, I just don't
feel most of what he does. That said he came up with
a keeper with the title track to The Last Temptation.
Ja and Charli take it old school with a reinterpretation
of the Afrika Bambaataa classic Jazzy Sensation. and
allow the beat to be the star. The result is an infectious
song that is already packin' dance floors. And let's
not even talk about the radio friendly core of this
track. As for the vocals Ja Rule turns in the stronger
of the two efforts. It clicks on all cylinders for Ja
Rule. He's commanding and goes toe to toe with the bangin'
bass. CB on the other hand comes off acceptable but
not stupendous. Her verses are interchangeable. What
I mean by this is that they could have written "insert
female rap here" and had any of a number of lady
emcees deliver the same contribution. Charli frankly
comes in flat and doesn't sound like she's got her heart
into it.
Maybe she was too preoccupied with the release of her
own album to give The Last Temptation the justice
it deserved. Better luck next time.
