"The Truth" is that I wasn't feeling this
album. Don't get it twisted, I understand that there's
a large audience for Beanie's material (as evidenced
by "The Truth" debuting at #5 on the Billboard
Pop Charts). Unfortunately, I'm not in that demographic.
For the most part, the album bored me. Aside from "Mac
Man", which is a clever narrative using vintage
video game characters as the players, and "Remember
Them Days" (featuring Eve), the subject material
was recycled and uninspired. The production is slick
and the rhymes calculated. The result is good rap industry
product but it lacks the soul needed to be considered
true Hip Hop.
Beanie plays it safe throughout and lacks the verbal
dexterity to carry any of the adequate tracks. "What
A Thug About" is the only solo cut that has any
spark to it. The song is already a hit, and deservedly
so.
