Did you really thing a court ordered injunction putting
the release of KRS-ONE's Kristyles was going
to keep PhillyHipHop.com from bringin' y'all the goods?
One of the gems on the excellent album is the Baby Blak
and KRS collabo with production handled by the world
famous DJ Revolution entitled Things Will Change.
Is there any doubt at this point that Baby Blak has
ascended to the pinnacle of the rap game? Think about
it: the greatest emcee of all time has enlisted West
Phil's own Baby Blak to add flavor to his latest release...
make that latest album with the release part in a state
of limbo. As for Things Will Change it features
the trio of Rev, Blak and Kris so is there any chance
that the song isn't a slice of the best that Hip Hop
has to offer? Of course not. Although not credited on
the album, Baby Blak takes the lead on the song, setting
the tone with his commanding first verse that KRS-ONE
jumps right in on and does what KRS does best. The formula
for the song is really quite simple; two of Hip Hop's
top emcees spitting intelligent and entertaining rhymes
over one of Hip Hop's top producers. It's the no frills
simplicity in positioning the beat to serve as a platform
for the lyrics rather than the raps being an afterthought
to a bangin' beat. This here is all about lyricism above
all other.
The last time The Blastmaster came looking for a Philly
emcee to team up with he ended up with the Hip Hop classic
Serious Remix featuring him alongside the Greater
Philadelphia Hip Hop Hall of Fame member and pioneering
Philly emcee Steady B.
In 2003 the combo is Baby Blak and KRS-ONE. Marinate
on that one for a minute and recognize what it all means.
Baby Blak is bout' to make sure that in the game Things
Will Chance
