Roll down to the lower numbered North Philly streets
and although the faces change from Black to Puerto Rican,
that Philly Gully sound is still as strong as ever.
The latest Latinos to rep the harder side of the culture
are True Hustla aka Mike Myaz and Slice One, collectively
known as A.T.F.
Their self titled LP makes it clear that they take their
craft as seriously as the streets the continue to survive.
You knowwhen they say rappers are only rappin' about
what they see day to day? This is one of those instances.
Now there's a million crews in the 215 following the
same formula but they lack the catchy hooks and strong
deliveries that A.T.F. display. My personal favorite
is the rappin', scratchin' and bouncin' beat of Live
From The Basement. Attention mixtape DJs- get up on
this one, you'll thank me later. And they straight bring
the funk fire on Legends Of The Fall. The song is like
a sonic hi speed chase that would be right at home in
any urban film. The song is a success because they allow
you to visualize the scenerio as it unfolds. Not to
be forgotten in the mix is the strong rhymes that keep
the whole damn thing going. Flaunting the same funk
intensity is the slithering High Times. Gritty, infectious,
mysterious- all apply to High Times.
The remainder of All Time Felonz is filled with cuts
created in a similiar style. While not all of it is
Grammy material, none of it is less than cool. If thinks
break just the right way, big time things are gonna
happen for A.T.F. Remember, ya heard it here first.
