I'm quoted in the latest edition of Elemental Magazine
as saying "I haven't heard a 40 D cut that I didn't
like yet." I always like when I'm properly quoted.
I'm a fan of 40th Dimension. I always have been and
Crop Report did nothing but solidify my thoughts that
these brothers are one of the 215's most underrated
crews.
The latest effort from these proud Philly boys is solid
as hell and funky as ish. Let's Get It On rings in the
Crop Report era with gritty, twisting funk flow ridden
impressively by Scandal. The same phat beats, hooks
and rhymes pop up on We Do It Like This, the bouncy
groove and funny hooks and feel of Eat My Gun and the
mixtape candidate sounds of What It Is. That's not to
say there isn't an entire crop of underground DJ delites
included. For others you won't have to look any further
than the backpacker beats of I Don't Care and the upper
level lyricism that Scandal spits on Open Minded. Once
again Scandal shows that he's a true emcee. There are
only a few cuts that don't impress but at the same time
are better than many artist's best material. I think
I hold 40 D up to high standards because they've exhibited
in the past that they could handle it. Super Scandalous
and Ahead Of Times didn't manage to make me bob my head
or move me too much at all but other than that its all
butta. The duo shows that they can flip the script on
The Session with newfangled soundscapes without losing
any of the lyrical integrity.
Simply stated I consider Happ G & Scandal's Crop
Report a must have for any 2002 Hip Hop collection.
Nuff said.
